The inspiration for the interior design of 63 Muston Street came from the clever way the architecture permitted natural light to enter both units. The colour palette and finishes were inspired from a recent trip to Denmark and Sweden. Their use of light timber and clean lines leaves room to add colour in furniture and artwork.
Canadian Rock Maple is a lovely coloured timber. I have used it for wide timber floorboards and for cabinetry in the hallways and main bedroom areas. This timber gives warmth to the white walls and the mid-tone grey stone outside. I chose the stone for its durability. It is a sandstone but very dense. It is appropriate to use in the garden for paving as well.
I kept the palette simple to allow the owner to add their personal touches and to enhance the architectural features.
The fixtures and finishes are of the highest standard. The kitchen is fitted out with Meile Appliances. The freestyle workbench is a very durable material even though it’s white. The Calacutta marble is a feature slab on the face of the island bench and the splashback away from the working surface. The Calacutta marble is also used for the cabinetry bench tops at each end of the living space.
The main ensuite bathroom’s tiles are a large 400 x 800 tile of Snow white Travertine, which looks like clouds. It is very unusual with large spa bath and separate shower.
The other bathrooms have floors of Pietra Grey Marble with walls tiled in 300 x 600 satin white tiles.
The external finishes continue a similar colour palette to the inside. White rendered walls, western red cedar timber shutters to Muston street gives privacy from the street and warmth to the exterior.
